Original Editions: Jos Houben

 

An innovator in comedy and physical theatre, Jos Houben is internationally acclaimed for his ability to blend a keen observation of the everyday with an acute sense of silliness. This made him the perfect subject for the first in our Original Editions series – portraits of innovators across the arts, science, engineering, and sport.

 

Our challenge was to create an intimate portrait of Jos in a series of short videos and stills. Photography, video and cinemagraphs were captured by a team of photographers led by Phil Adams.

 

Designer David Buchanan developed a unique digital channel to showcase the portrait plus different aspects of the creative process. Winner of the coveted Perrier Comedy Award and Olivier Awards for Best Entertainment and for Best New Comedy, in 2015 Jos received the prestigious Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters (reserved for artists and writers who have contributed significantly to furthering the arts in France and throughout the world). Widely regarded as ground breaking in his field, his show The Art of Laughter has been touring the world to sell out audiences for the past 12 years.
